Next-Generation Networks

Globecomm specializes in designing and building next-generation satellite and hybrid networks based on an Internet Protocol platform that can seamlessly support multiple applications. Next-generation networks reduce complexity and cost by carrying multiple forms of traffic – from voice to video to data – as IP packets, using advanced coding to ensure high performance.

Designing and building next-gen networks, however, presents major challenges. Existing network devices for many applications use non-IP protocols and software, and multiple protocol conversions are required to make every device speak the same digital "language." Networks that include "a little bit of satellite" present even bigger issues. IP was never designed to handle the signal delay of a satellite link, with its minimum 45,000-mile hop from transmitter to receiver. Unless the network is conditioned to handle this challenge, performance suffers and costly bandwidth goes wasted.

Globecomm has the expertise to design and manage next-generation networks for high throughput and uptime. We have experience with a wide range of network applications, from voice-video-data triple play networks to air-traffic control, mobile telephony call-processing and backhaul to Auxiliary Terrestrial Components for satellite radio.
