Credit Card Billing for
Pay-Per-Day and Pay-Per-View Transactions
When used in conjunction with the CableBridge system, the ETI Resort
Manager software provides cable system operators with the ability to
allow automated subscriber purchase of high-speed Internet access,
pay-per-view movies, and special events with VISA, MasterCard,
American Express and Discover bank cards. Resort Manager is ideal
for properties with a high degree of churn, such as resort rental
properties, resident training facilities, small hotels, hospitals,
and universities. Payment by credit card for high-speed Internet
access and movies generates revenues from a new customer base that
traditional subscriber management systems can’t provide. With the
Resort Manager, the cable system operator captures all the revenues
without sharing income with a third-party service provider. The
Resort Manager also supplements the features of the ETI CableBridge
system, so the cable system operator can manage both the residential
and resort subscriber base from one system.
System Description
With the Resort Manager software, the system is connected to the
bank card service provider and the system controllers at each
headend.
Resort subscribers order daily Internet access and Pay-Per-View
movies and events using a touch-tone telephone through an ARU
application provided with the system. When the subscriber enters the
credit card number and expiration date, Resort Manager automatically
authorizes the transaction and sends the commands to one or more of
the addressable controllers at the cable operator's headend. Resort
Manager automatically settles authorized transactions nightly for
next day payment to the cable system operator’s bank account.
Resort Manager provides a graphical user interface so that customer
service representatives can place orders and issue credits for
resort subscribers. It also provides reporting of subscriber
activity and electronic transaction settlement information.

System Features
- Daily Internet access and
Pay-Per-View video services.
- Automated 24-hour subscriber
access through integrated Audio Response Unit (ARU).
- American Express, VISA,
MasterCard and Discover bank card billing.
- Interfaces directly with First
Data bank card service for automated authorization and settlement.
ARU Provides 24-Hour Subscriber
and Technician Access
The Resort Manager provides voice response applications through
ETI's integrated CableCall™ ARU. These applications are available to
your subscribers 24-hours a day, 7 days a week from any touch
tone-telephone. See CableCall for more information.
Pay-Per-View
A resort subscriber can order a Pay-Per-View event by entering
their room ID code and the channel number to be viewed. Special
events can also be ordered by event code. Resort subscribers are
prompted for their credit card number and expiration date. Resort
Manager authorizes the transaction, and the subscriber is informed
if the requested service will be provided. For orders that were
successfully placed, Resort Manager automatically authorizes the
event to the subscriber’s location at the appropriate time.
High-Speed Internet Access
For cable systems providing high-speed Internet access with the
appropriate controller, Resort Manager can provide this service on a
daily basis, and the service will be billed to the subscriber’s
credit card.
