Louis Kingston, former business consultant at EMAP, joins rapidly expanding IPTV business

London, UK -- IPTV Consultancy and Technology Enabler, Med1a, has announced the appointment of Louis Kingston as Commercial Director. Kingston, formerly of EMAP, will be responsible for raising awareness of Med1a’s IPTV platform, ‘View TV’, in order to help Media companies and Special Interest Groups to make money from IPTV.

Med1a was formed in January 2007 by Gary Corbett, who is also CEO of Opera Telecom – No. 1 in Sunday Times list of fastest growing companies (2004) – and Jamie Branson, Managing Director of T2eUK Ltd, creator of the View TV platform. Undoubtedly the ratio between TV and Internet is closing with the expansion of broadband to the home. With declining revenue from brand sponsors in traditional media and an increasingly dispersed consumer base, organisations are keen to exploit the highly targeted, highly measurable, online audiences who either view content from their PC, or via an IPTV Set Top Box directly to their TV.

Commenting on his appointment, Louis Kingston, Commercial Director, Med1a, says, “I have worked very closely with Gary Corbett in the past, and he has consistently been ahead of the curve in terms of delivering effective interactive technology and services for media companies globally. Gary’s involvement in Med1a, combined with Jamie Branson’s experience and knowledge of the IPTV market, convinced me that this was a fantastic opportunity to be involved with a company that can genuinely be the market leader in enabling content owners and media organisations to monetise their content in a cost effective manner and communicate with their audience in new ways.”

Kingston continues, “Our experience shows that you can’t afford to dabble with IPTV – the costs are high and there is a risk of disenfranchising the core consumer base. From choosing the IPTV platform through to creating a business model that effectively combines subscriptions with advertising and interactivity to generate revenue, getting it right from day one will deliver significant competitive advantage. This is where our depth of experience can help get organisations quickly to the point of monetising their offering over IPTV. We can help companies to really push the boundaries of new media technology.”

Kingston has 18 years of experience in the media, interactive services and mobile telecommunications industries. Prior to joining Med1a Kingston worked with EMAP as a business consultant identifying and marketing new interactive services for Emap’s consumer and lifestyle brands, including the creation of a number of off portal mobile sites including FHM, Heat, Q, Kiss, Empire and Kerrang!

Prior to this, Kingston headed up the Media and Sales operations for multinational media and technology corporation, itouch. During this time, itouch was responsible for managing the interactive platforms for numerous TV shows including Pop Idol, The x-factor and Big Brother.

Kingston says, “I look forward to taking Med1a’s View TV platform to market and demonstrating its flexibility, and making Med1a the UK’s first choice provider for IPTV solutions.”

Gary Corbett, Director of Media, says “We are very pleased that Louis has joined us at Med1a. His extensive experience in media and sales will add significant value to our IPTV venture as we begin to extend our reach in the market.”
