Carrier-class Modular Video Processor Delivers Unified
MPEG-4/H.264 Video Processing and Ad Insertion Platform for Telco
Networks
Beijing, China -- RGB Networks, the leader in network video
processing, today expanded its presence in the Asia Pacific
telecommunications industry with the introduction of its Modular
Video Processor (MVP) to the region. The MVP is RGB’s first product
built specifically to meet the advanced video delivery needs of
telecom carriers. The MVP is a complete IPTV solution that enables
telcos to deliver high-quality, IP-based video services to their
subscribers. A true carrier-class solution, the MVP combines support
for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 advanced processing, grooming, switching
and digital ad insertion in a highly reliable chassis. |

“Our Modular Video Processor
continues to be the heart of RGB Networks’ global telecom strategy,”
said Ramin Farassat, Vice President, Product Marketing for RGB
Networks. “We have made great inroads with telecom operators in
North America, who have discovered the benefits of this platform
built to specifically address their needs. We look forward to
bringing its unique capabilities, performance and reliability to
operators throughout the Asia Pacific region as they look to
generate new revenues through the rollout of advanced IPTV
services.”
“Based on the recent demand that we have experienced for RGB’s
advanced video processing solutions from cable operators outside of
North America, we anticipate that IPTV providers in the Asia Pacific
region will have similar interest as they seek to keep the playing
field even," said Sarah Hackforth, Vice President, Asia Pacific.
RGB consulted closely with several large telecom carriers in
designing the MVP to ensure that it meets their specific needs for
high reliability and expandability today and into the future, and
has further refined these requirements as the platform has undergone
extensive customer testing. Key features include concurrent support
for the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 video standards; targeted
advertising insertion; high-density grooming, re-multiplexing,
transrating and aggregation; quality-of-service (QoS); reliable
video delivery; and exceptional overall reliability. The MVP does
all of this while maintaining the highest video
quality-of-experience (QoE) for subscribers.
The MVP’s support for both MPEG-4/H.264 and MPEG-2 is particularly
important as many telcos are adopting MPEG-4/H.264 for its superior
bandwidth efficiency, enabling the delivery of up to twice the high
definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) programming without
increasing bandwidth. While many operators have already deployed an
MPEG-2 infrastructure, the MVP’s support for both standards across a
variety of video processing applications enables telcos with
existing MPEG-2 deployments to continue delivering MPEG-2 services
as they transition to MPEG-4/H.264.
A second key feature of the MVP is support for advanced advertising.
In order to off-set the cost of deploying new video delivery
systems, IPTV network operators often require a new source of
revenue. The MVP's ability to enable targeted advertising makes it
an ideal solution in a highly competitive video marketplace. For the
first time, telecom operators have an integrated targeted ad
insertion solution, together with best-of-breed advanced video
processing functionality, that can unlock an untapped revenue
opportunity.
Carriers also require very high reliability from the equipment in
their networks to ensure uninterrupted service delivery, and as such
the MVP has been designed from the outset to meet this need.
Exceptional reliability and fault-tolerance are enabled by the MVP’s
NEBS-compliant chassis design, which incorporates extensive
fail-over capabilities and comprehensive component redundancies to
ensure the highest levels of availability.
RGB will continue to develop the MVP, taking advantage of its
modular, chassis-based architecture and will provide additional
capabilities through the addition of new modules to enable new
applications.
RGB Networks will demonstrate the MVP at its booth (#2305) at the
upcoming CCBN trade show, March 21-23, in Beijing, China.
