Latens Systems
May 27, 2008

Belfast, UK -- Latens Systems, a market leader in software conditional access and service delivery platforms for pay TV operators, today announced that it is demonstrating its full suite of products for cable and hybrid cable/IP networks at ANGA 2008 (stand #B44), including the Latens CAS and Latens BCAS software solutions and the Latens ECOsystem service delivery platform. This unique product portfolio enables Latens to provide next generation, dynamically downloadable, software based conditional access (CA) for all broadband and broadcast cable, satellite, DTTV and IPTV networks and service delivery platforms for IPTV, cable and hybrid cable/IPTV networks.

Latens’ software CA systems are fully DVB standards compliant but offer more flexibility and cost-effectiveness than legacy smartcard based systems. Latens CA solutions are also DVB Simulcrypt compliant, so that operators can not only deploy software based CA in new Pay-TV networks, but also alongside existing DVB compliant CA systems on their existing networks, and enjoy the increased functionality, business flexibility and cost savings that Latens provide.

Latens next generation systems offer proven scalability for large operators and also provide the lower-cost base that is attractive for smaller operators that have a complex infrastructure, including triple-play offerings, distributed and hybrid networks.

The Latens management team has many years of experience implementing DVB broadcast systems, both as operators and technology suppliers. At ANGA, Latens’ management team will discuss the main issues facing cable, satellite and IPTV Pay-TV operators deploying software-based CA and provide information about its upcoming contract announcement of Latens CA being deployed at a large cable operator in the APAC region and how it is enabling the protection of Multimedia Polska’s advanced dual IP and cable network.

The Latens solutions demonstrated at ANGA include:
  • Latens CAS, a next generation, standards compliant conditional access system optimized for the broadband digital cable market. The system has been built on the knowledge and experience of the cable industry that has been used to build standards designed by the DVB® and Cablelabs. Latens CAS is a pure software solution which replaces the proprietary smartcards or embedded set-top solutions of traditional CAS vendors with a downloadable CAS system using innovative Secure Software Modules. This provides a more dynamic, secure anti-piracy strategy at a much lower cost. Latens has designed the system with the flexibility to support the diverse range of business models encountered in various digital cable markets.
  • Latens IPCAS, a software-based CA system that has been specifically tailored for the unique demands of larger IP network operators. The system has been built using knowledge gained from the Pay TV industry combined with new possibilities enabled by technical improvements in software security, STB design and the architecture of two-way networks. Latens IPTV CA solutions have been designed to scale to protect operators with millions of subscribers and is ideal for hybrid networks.
  • Latens BCAS, a next generation, DVB compliant Conditional Access System designed for operators of broadcast cable, satellite and digital terrestrial networks. BCAS is the first software-based solution for networks without an always on return path and is still presently the only such commercially available solution.
  • Latens ECOsystem integrates Latens IPCAS with head-end management tools and established STB client middleware and browser technology to provide a high-performance and open IPTV service delivery platform which is primarily aimed at IPTV operators and cable networks aiming to scale to 100,000 or millions of customers. Latens ECOsystem enables network operators to provide advanced secure IPTV services. This service delivery platform sets new standards in viewer experience, flexibility, scalability and performance to meet the needs of rapidly growing IPTV operations worldwide.
