Washington, DC -- TBC Integration completed a migration strategy to
upgrade the Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN) satellite
network to MPEG-4 DVB-S2 video compression with Irdeto content
protection.
To streamline its E-Learning Network, SCN plans to change its video
compression and satellite modulation from MPEG-2 DVB-S to MPEG-4
DVB-S2. The migration decreases the bandwidth necessary to
distribute SCN video applications, which currently includes three
televised distance education channels. As a result, additional
bandwidth can be reserved for alternative applications, such as
delivering high-speed Internet connectivity, VOIP and cell phone
services via satellite to rural populations across North America.

TBC Integration, an Irdeto
channel partner, will provide end-to-end solution development for
the SCN migration, which includes solution creation, project
management and technical support. This ensures a reliable,
best-of-breed solution coupled with direct customer support that is
backed by each manufacturer.
“SCN searched for a trusted systems integrator capable of delivering
the best solution and support possible for our MPEG-4 DVB-S2
migration,” said David Stanchuk, director of technology for SCN.
“TBC Integration proved to be an obvious choice, delivering a single
resource and point of contact for proven solution development and
integration, as well as ongoing technical support.”
Irdeto’s
content security solution protects SCN video programming distributed
across the satellite network, and allows SCN to deliver premium
educational content and applications through a subscription-based
business model.
"Irdeto
is a leader in content security with one of the largest customer
install bases in the world,” said Sean Busby, executive vice
president of TBC Integration. “Irdeto’s market leadership guarantees
not only a proven content security solution, but also provides
compatible network solutions and set top box options that allows
SCN’s infrastructure to scale cost-effectively as its subscriber
base grows.”
Currently under development, the SCN migration is expected to finish
in the spring of 2008. The MPEG-4 DVB-S2 signal will be available in
270 classrooms spread throughout the province and allow for
continued expansion of the network.
“Ongoing support for channel partners creates a unified effort to
generate new revenue opportunities within rising North American
markets,” said Doug Lowther, vice president of sales and marketing
for Irdeto. “The SCN deployment is a direct result of our six-year
relationship with TBC Integration and joint sales and marketing
efforts made possible through Irdeto’s channel program.”
TBC Integration is demonstrating its latest solutions in an Irdeto-sponsored
booth at Satellite 2008 (#356) this week in Washington, D.C. This
joint sales and marketing opportunity is made available through
Irdeto’s channel partnership program.
