Narrowstep evolves into international video-over-IP distributor

The benefits to Narrowstep’s clients are obvious, as TelVOS, enables them to build their own television service or establish their own TV portal. By distributing content to anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day/7 days per week, a range of new commercial opportunities is created and earnings streams from (in many cases) existing video content are unlocked. To name a few: Content and service syndication, pay-per-view and subscription services, advertising and sponsoring revenue, SMS and voice response services, e-commerce, distributing V(ideo)Zines, running Employee TV or Distributor TV Channels.

The recent explosive growth in Broadband connections has removed most of the skepticism with regard to Internet. Corporate enterprises and organizations are still extremely cautious when it comes to spending large sums of money up-front, and the need for realizing positive bottom-line results has increased dramatically. We are convinced that Narrowstep’s client-offering fulfils this need, as it is both very low-cost and extremely performance-oriented.

Narrowstep’s Network has been architected and engineered to be scalable and replicable. At the end of 2004 the network was capable of handling up to 8,000 simultaneous users at a connection rate of 400Kb/sec. The company anticipates being able to handle 60,000 simultaneous viewers at an average data rate of 800Kb/s by the end of 2005, and 120,000 simultaneous viewers by the end of 2006. This translates roughly into 500,000 daily viewers for 2004 and 10,000,000 for 2005.

What is the market’s response to Narrowstep As per March 31st 2005 Narrowstep has deployed 36 channels and attracted more than 10 million viewers over the past 18 months. The firm said it is now delivering an average of 1.8 million TV ads each month. 75% of its viewers currently watch between 30 to 50 minutes per session and 82% of viewers connect at speeds of 256k or above. Brands who have already advertised on Narrowstep’s channels include Sony Ericsson, Philips, Nissan, Nike, Red Bull, Canon , HSBC, KPMG, COI, AOL, Easyjet, the United Kingdom Government (Royal Marines), and Quiksilver.

All channels were developed for third parties, with the exception of High.tv. As part of Narrowstep's initial development of its internet-based video content delivery system, the company deployed and currently still operates its own internet channel. www.high.tv, was launched on March 2003. The channel features a variety of outdoor, adventure and extreme sports and broadcasts windsurfing of the PWA World Windsurfing Tour live and in real time.

www.fieldockey.tv is an online, 24x7, TV Channel, which covers all aspects of field hockey. Many Olympic sports such as field hockey have an extensive global following, but on a per region basis, often lack the demand needed to attract the interest of traditional broadcasters.
