Upgrade to 10Gbit/s DWDM backbone delivers Oklahoma service
provider enhanced degrees of power and flexibility to profitably
expand offerings
Mahwah, NJ & Martinsried/Munich, Germany -- ADVA Optical Networking
today announced Cross Telephone Company has deployed the Fiber
Service Platform (FSP) 3000RE to modernize its network backbone for
profitable growth in services to business and residential users, as
well as other service providers. The FSP 3000RE is currently
delivering 10Gbit/s for the nearly 100-year-old Oklahoma provider’s
voice, data, video and wholesale services. Maximum scalability for
the FSP 3000RE is up to 40Gbit/s on each of 40 wavelengths, or
1.6Tbit/s. |

“ADVA Optical Networking’s solution
substantially enhances our competitive positioning and long-term
profitability,” said David Wright, Cross Telephone general manager.
“In upgrading our core network from ATM (asynchronous transfer mode)
to 10Gbit/s DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing), we now
have the flexibility and scalability to deliver new
bandwidth-intensive services to end users and to other service
providers on a wholesale basis. The FSP 3000RE provides us a robust
and simple platform to cost-effectively overlay additional services
on existing infrastructure. It also allows us to implement
Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) functionality in
the future to dynamically switch traffic as needs arise.”
Cross Telephone deployed FSP 3000RE platforms at its 14 central
offices linked along three optical-fiber network rings across nearly
300km. ADVA Optical Networking’s solution is able to support all of
Cross Telephone’s multi-protocol service traffic at native speeds,
without the need for in-line amplification of the optical signals
between any two central offices.
“Cross Telephone has been locally owned since its founding in 1911,
so this is obviously a company that understands the long-term needs
of its customers,” said Brian P. McCann, chief marketing and
strategy officer with ADVA Optical Networking. “The company’s
digital television and high-speed Internet services have been
well-received, and the new opportunities for wholesaling individual
wavelengths, Gigabit Ethernet and SONET (Synchronous Optical
Network) services are exciting. Cross Telephone knew the time was
right to upgrade its network and we are pleased that our solution
provided the most powerful, flexible foundation for continued,
profitable growth.”
The ADVA FSP 3000RE is a cost-effective, dynamic optical transport
platform that provides a multitude of service interfaces for central
offices, customer premises, co-location and carrier hotel
applications.
Using Raman amplification, the FSP 3000RE can also support regional
networks, where reach requirements can be up to 2,000km and spans
can reach 160km. The FSP 3000RE provides a versatile, cost-effective
and compact platform for access, metro and regional applications.
Wavelengths can be selectively configured at any node, with
Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) or with fixed
OADM filters, delivering an assortment of transparent,
protocol-independent or aggregated services. Extensive monitoring
and control are delivered via the RAYcontrol® GMPLS-based control
plane.
