SMG Productions
November 30, 2006

Glasgow, Scotland -- SMG Productions, the content division of SMG plc is today launching a web TV channel - www.scotlandontv.tv The channel is aimed at a worldwide target audience, including anyone with an interest in Scotland, be they ex-pats, tourists or people exploring their Scottish roots.

This is the first phase in SMG Production’s roll-out of web TV, and is an integral part of SMG’s overall online strategy. The company plans to launch further web TV channels in 2007.

Scotlandontv launches with programming from the archive of stv, Scotland’s largest commercial broadcaster. The programmes have been re-packaged for a global audience. Going forward there will be content created especially for a world-wide audience, daily news bulletins from stv’s news teams, as well as more programming from the archives.

The channel is built around six sub-channels: News, Town & Country, Food & Drink, Sport, History and Culture. The face of the channel is Kate Heavenor (26), who is originally from Glasgow and has presented a number of TV series. She introduces each sub-channel in specially recorded links.

Scotlandontv is managed by SMG Productions’ head of business development, Helen Alexander. Helen says: “TV over Broadband is an exciting new marketplace for content producers and owners. It’s still early days but we were keen for SMG Productions to get into this new space and start learning about it. To be able to build a relationship with viewers around the globe is a whole new experience and one we wanted to seize.”

SMG Productions has partnered with Internet broadcast specialist ROO to provide the video-streaming technology for the channel. ROO is a global provider of digital media solutions and advercasting technology that enables the activation, marketing and distribution of digital media video content over the Internet and emerging broadcasting platforms.

Robert Petty, CEO of ROO says, “We are pleased to be able to work with Scotlandontv.tv to stream SMG’s content through our ROO player.”

At launch, content will be free-to-air and available only via streaming but SMG plans to introduce programming from stv’s extensive archive on a download-to-own and subscription basis early in 2007

Steve Webster, SMG's IT Director says: "As a Group, we've already built considerable experience in new media services through Virgin Radio and stv.tv. Scotlandontv represents another major step forward and is reflective of the importance we place on the internet as a viable means of developing innovative business models and distributing content to new audiences outwith our traditional broadcast territories."
