November 7, 2006

Oslo, Norway -- Appear TV announces that it’s been chosen by Get to provide high-density local head-end decoding solutions. Get is distributing all its content to regional head-ends over its IP backbone and using the Appear TV DC1000 decoding solutions at these nodes to distribute base package in analog over coax cable. The Appear TV decoding hardware is an efficient, flexible and cost-effective solution that is now live at Get, enabling the operator to seamlessly up-grade its video distribution to IP via Get’s new National Multi Service Ring backbone.

“Appear TV’s customer oriented design process meant that we could deploy a tailored solution that offered exactly the functionality we required.,” says Christophe Brod,Broadcast Network Manager

“We monitor and control the Appear TV hardware from Oslo, which increases the efficiency of our video distribution. The DC1000’s have so-far given us faultless operation, enabling us to seamlessly and cost-effectively distribute digital content to our regional head-ends through our IP-based Multi-Service Ring,” concluded Christophe Brod.

The Get network consists of regional head-ends situated on two IP Gigabit Ethernet rings which intersect at the Get media centre in Oslo. Together, the two rings form a Multi-Service Ring (MSR). Get has installed Appear TV DC1000 decoders at regional head-ends for the decoding and onward distribution of TV and radio channels. The high-density DC1000 handles reception, decoding, NICAM encoding, PAL modulation and RF up-conversion. The DC1000 has been designed to be managed remotely, enabling Get to efficiently manage its IP content distribution.

“I’m delighted to have Get as a customer,” says Carl Walter Holst, CEO, Appear TV. “That such an advanced operator should choose our equipment is a great compliment to our team and the products it has designed. I look forward to helping Get to gain a competitive advantage by maximizing its investment in its advanced Multi Service Ring IP backbone.”

About the Appear TV DC1000
The DC1000 is a multi-channel high-density MPEG-2/DVB carrier-grade decoder designed for professional operators. It is built around a flexible chassis to meet specific customer needs through the customer configurable hosting of different modules. The flexibility and high-density of the DC1000 enables operators to cost-effectively deploy IP content distribution.

The product supports reception, descrambling, decoding with composite PAL output of MPEG-2 encoded signals. Each channel can additionally be fitted with an analogue VHF/UHF modulator, which allows the output to be inserted directly into local analogue cable networks. As an option, the VHF/UHF modulator can also be fitted with NICAM or A2 audio encoders. The DC1000 supports remote management and control, for instance the channels to be decoded can be selected dynamically from a media centre using a built-in web-management tool. The DC1000 supports descrambling of both AES and DVB common interface encrypted services.

The high-density DC1000 is mainly targeted at cable TV networks with IP content distribution from media centre to local head-end. Additionally this product allows IP-centric service providers to offer analogue packages in parallel with a digital offering, eliminating the need for distributing the channels in analog format over the core network.
